Halpin Plumbing has a system where they charge by the job, not by any hourly amount or parts amount. Beware of this system. When they told me the estimate, I figured it would take them all day, they would need lots of parts. When they finished my small plumbing projects in 1 hour and presented me with a charge of $977.00, I paid it because that is what they told me the charge would be. I called and complained about this excessive charge for so little work and was told that is how they do business, just in case I was a customer who had work that took a lot longer. Darrel professionally scoped, hydro washed, and installed a new liner in my sewer pipe. He explained each process as it was performed so I could better understand each step. He told me he had to go through training to get certified for this work and that he had been doing it for several years. He also showed me the materials he was using and how the process worked. Darrel and his team also had to replace a wye pipe under the garage floor. I appreciated the information, the friendliness, and the professionalism in the work that they completed. AJ and Will came out on a Saturday and cleared my main line after a whole house backup. You couldn't put a price on the professionalism they showed. Halpin Plumbing, Taylor and crew members, have done extensive work on my home, which I purchased about ten months ago. They have helped me with various renovations and repairs, everything from a new direct-vent water heater, to replacing some in-wall plumbing, to new shut-off valves, frost-free exterior faucets, a new ejector pump, checking gas lines and repairing two small leaks, and other repairs/replacements. I will continue to call on Halpin. The quality of the work is excellent, they are very careful with the home generally while working, including when any type of drilling is required. They will take the time to provide a careful diagnostic, and make necessary recommendations, but also let you know about what repairs might safely wait. Taylor notices the important details, for example when he suggested that he could drop a line down for the main shut-off valve for the home, which was hiding behind a large sewer line that runs through the furnace room; now it is easily accessible.The work and replaced equipment - hot water heater etc. - has all held up well thus far, and everything looks nice; the work is always finished carefully, and completed in a timely manner. The office and plumbing staff are always very responsive and pleasant to deal with, respectful of the customer and your home. Communication is very good. Had a very positive experience with Halpin. This week we discovered our old cast iron pipe in our unfinished basement was cracked and spraying water. Hapin was able to send a technician the same day I called. Geoff the technician was able to explain the issue and more than one way to address. In the end we replaced the whole line with PVC for a long term solution. It was done a couple days after diagnosis for what we thought was a reasonable price. I could not be more impressed with the service and professionalism provided by Geoff and his fine team at Halpin Plumbing. I had the unfortunate event of a main sewer line clog during the holiday season. Even as a first-time customer, Geoff was quick to visit my house and assess the situation. We required a dig, but Geoff was able to start right away and finish it promptly. He took every care to completely resolve the problem, to preserve my house and yard, and to leave as little mess as possible. And he was very upfront and fair with me on pros and cons, process, and charges. Geoff and Mike came out to open my main sewer line , they found roots covering a majority of the line in multiple places.
Opened the line on Friday so we could use it thru the weekend and came back on Monday and removed all the roots . I was able to see that from watching the camera in the line , they did a fantastic job and cleaned up when they were done.

I would without a doubt contact again and recommend others to Halpin Plumbing with any plumbing needs. The office personnel (Sarah) was very easy to work with in scheduling for estimates and repairs and Darrel who was the man on the job was excellent to work with. He explained thoroughly what I was to expect, made every effort to do what would be in my homes best interest as well as hauled off my old nasty toilet after removing it. I met with him several times before the date of the back flow installation and through the various meetings I felt comfortable enough to leave him in my home alone through most of the day while I had other obligations to tend to. Not very many companies leave you feeling so trusting/confident. Thanks so much to Darrel and his partner for the excellent work they did. I have used Halpin for our plumbing needs for many years. This includes minor repairs to major installations and a $17,000 re-routing of a storm sewer drain. Not to mention that they had a grinder pump shipped in from Chicago on New Year's eve and installed it early evening in time for us to have a dinner party at our home. We are having a hard time believing the complete lack of consideration and respect we received. We feel completely scammed.
It should have been very simple: our warrantied sump pump charger stopped working. Simply taking the few minutes to hang a new one on the wall and plug it in should have been quick and simple. Instead, Halpin sent someone who had no idea what he was doing ("electronics aren't my thing," "must have been hit by lightening??," "do you have an old computer cord I can try?"), who proceeded to spend HOURS doing "diagnostics" (which mainly consisted of being outside on the phone with somebody).
The thing is plugged into a GFI outlet, with the breaker box just feet away. The "diagnostics" SHOULD have been 1) see the lights on the GFI telling you it's working, 2) go flip the (untripped) breaker for good measure, 3) plug ANYTHING into the outlets to confirm they are working, then 4) hang a new charger.
So when he finally came back inside, we asked repeatedly for an explanation of what was going on. Again, the basic answer was "electronics are not my thing" and "it's like a TV, you know?"
Finally, he replaced the (warrantied) charger, then gave us a bill for over $500. After we responded in SHOCK, he went back outside and called somebody else and returned with a new bill of $300. We asked for an explanation, or an itemization of the charge, and none was given.
It appeared that the charger was the only thing not working, but for safety's sake we asked him to verify the sump pump was working. HE REFUSED TO DO SO. After asking him repeatedly, HE REFUSED TO VERIFY THE SUMP PUMP WAS WORKING.
We called the office and and were told we would receive a call-back. After more than 24 hours, we had received no return call. So, we called AGAIN, and were AGAIN told we'd receive a callback. This time, when the person finally returned our call, they basically told us that they were going to do nothing about it at all, and that the crazy $300 charge would stand. We asked for a reason, and received none. Again, we asked for an itemization of the charges, and the response was "diagnostics."
So, here's what we can only assume is your policy: When a warrantied part needs replacing, send an unqualified person who freely admits they know nothing about the problem, who spends hours on the phone before replacing the part. Then charge HUNDREDS of dollars to do NOTHING but hang the new thing on the wall and plug it in...make sure the charge is FAR BEYOND the cost of simply buying the new equipment (to more than cover the cost of replacing the warrantied part). Then if the homeowner complains, drop a couple hundred off the bill to try to make them stop complaining, but still make sure the charge is far above the cost of the warrantied equipment. Try not to return calls or answer questions or itemize anything, or else it'll be way too obvious we are running a scam.

So far my dealings with Halpin plumbing have been very professional and pleasant. The receptionist , Rachael was friendly and very accommodating. Halpin is an outstanding plumber - they come when they say they will, they complete all jobs exactly as you ask them to (and even try to think ahead for projects you might be doing down the road) and they work in a timely and efficient manner. Plus they are available in emergency hours (nights and weekends) and even the great plumbers work emergency hours. Their workers are courteous and clean everything up when they are finished.
