I used to be with American Water, but we with another company and now I am back where I belong. My other unit was trash and only lasted about five years. I am extremely happy with my new softener and will probably never need a new unit as long as we are in this house. The new unit is non-electric and uses much less salt and is more maintenance-free which makes me much happier as I am not able to do much anymore due to age and infirmaries. Romaldo was very courteous and arrived for our consultation timely. He conducted a water test and shared the results with us allowing us to review our water quality in real time. The results were staggering. Our water quality in Round Rock is incredibly poor.
Romaldo spoke in plain, layman's terms that were easy to understand and jargon-free. After leaving the consultation Romaldo provided us with our water results in an easy-to-read report, along with three estimates of different equipment packages and the ongoing maintenance associated with the systems.
The installation team arrived timely, explained all of the steps they were going to do in order to complete the installation and got straight to work. They began at approximately 9:30am and were done by 3pm. Their installation was very clean and thorough.

We are very pleased with our experience with American Water and with our new kinetico system. We just moved into a new construction home in a neighborhood and we got our first contact from them about a month before we closed. At that time we weren’t interested, weren’t sure if we needed one, decided to wait and see.
Upon moving in, yes, we do need one. But the cost of these things really scares a first time homeowner that just spent ALOT of money buying this house, so we didn’t jump right away. Of course we have the other companies that come knocking and trying to pressure you into buying their systems. American Water never once came and knocked on our door, or kept calling or emailing which I REALLY liked. My thinking is: I know you exist, if I want to go with your product I will, I don’t need you to try to talk me into something after I say no multiple times, so this was one reason we liked American Water as they did not at all make me feel pressured. After getting some opinions and researching other companies and prices, I reached out to American Water asking for someone to come talk to me about my options, and Romaldo came the next day. He was so nice, professional and polite. Explained everything, broke down the prices on all the systems and left without making me feel like I had to make a decision right then and there. I recommend him 100% as the sales rep you’d like to work with.
He answered All my questions by text and email Over the next week and then got us scheduled for our complicated installation. Go figure we buy a new house in a city that absolutely needs a water softener and my house isn’t at all set up to be prepared to receive one. Even with this expensive installation, and we chose the most expensive water softener system, it was STILL cheaper than other systems. I was very impressed with the sales process as well as the installation. I have only had my system for a few days, but everything is working perfectly. One thing that stood out to me is that the sales associate, Romaldo, sold me the system that I needed, and did not try to push the more expensive systems on me (which I would not have bought anyway). He listened to my needs, tested my water, then sold me the system that was right for me. The installation was professional and everyone has been very friendly and helpful. Romaldo was superb in describing the different options available to us, and gave me all the information I needed to make the best decision for our family. The Kinetico brand that they offer truly is the best in class from what I could tell after extensive research. After selecting the water softener and filter system we wanted, the installation crew was faced with an unexpected and extremely labor-intensive job because they had to dig a trench through my whole yard (which includes a large amount of rock bedrock), but it did not dent their work ethic or professionalism at all. We had 2 main goals. Replace our 20 yr old softener with a quality system to handle our hard Dripping Springs well water, and get palatable drinking water in our home. I spent a couple weeks contacting a number of water specialists in the area asking questions specific to my situation. I used their answers to compare and contrast products, pricing, and just get a sense of each company. While some just seemed to want to make a sale, a few companies out there seem very reputable and knowledgeable. What sold me with American Water was not only the friendly, knowledgeable staff, but the highly rated/reviewed product brand (Kinetico). Kinetico was not the least expensive product line I priced , but not highest either. After comparing multiple products the price seemed fair. I ended up going with one of the Premier series non electric models, and the K5 under sink RO system. Install was timely and professional. We had one small issue with the RO discharge seeming a little loud when draining, and they came back out, diagnosed, and fixed it next day. We hope the new softener is more efficient than our last, and FYI .... our water tastes great. We did a blind taste test of 6 different waters across 5 family members, and the RO water was rated 1st by 3, and tied for 1st for the other 2. Not bad!! We'll see how these products fair over time, but I highly recommend American Water and Kinetico on initial quality, service, and professionalism. (See More)

The product itself would get a 4. The company who installs and services gets a 2.
The tech listed on this review did not do any of the installation, he is a manager at American.. The tech they sent out was very new and should have had more help available for him as he did not understand or know some of the technical things related to the system. He did a perfect job on installing per his instructions.
The system itself is great but as all things, some of the parts are cheap. A part in the brine tank broke after the 4th day. They sent a tech to repair the next day.
Follow through on the company hasn't been the best when asking for answers to the questions the tech could not answer. American Water does not follow the recommended installation steps that Kinetico does put in the installation guide. The only responses received were that they historically don't do some of the steps as they haven't had problems in the past. Not a great answer when contradicting the manufacturers guidelines. Starting with Ellen who took my first inquiry phone call 4 months or so ago, who spent a great deal of time on the phone explaining and answering every question I had about the products. Then Romaldo, who came to my new house and spent close to 2 hours going thru the product again as well as the benefits that would be received if purchased. Dann and I first met Ronaldo at the Austin Home and Garden Show earlier this year and what he shared with us about the mineral content in the water here can totally clog your pipes and faucets even within the first year was absolutely frightening to me and my husband! We knew when we built our house we needed to get a water softener and a water purifier for our drinking water. After our home had been built, we immediately contacted Ronaldo to come out to our house test our water! We also met with another agent from another reputable company and we decided to go with American Water with Ronaldo, because of his very thorough presentation and his passion about clean water and American Water's reputation in the Austin area and all over the world!
We could not be more pleased! We love the drinking water how it tastes and our shower water leaves our skin and hair feeling quite soft. We are so thankful for our water system in our house and highly recommend it to anyone thinking of putting in a water system in their home! It is worth every penny for your health and for your home! It is wonderful to not be taking in all that chlorine, as well as inhaling it in our showers, and knowing that the water I am drinking is pure and good for my body and that the pipes in our home are being protected from calcium and mineral build-up. When our last softener finally gave out, I began searching for one with a reputation for reliability and dependability. When I contacted American Water, they scheduled me with Romaldo and he called to verify the appointment. He arrived promptly and couldn't have been any better. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my and my wife's questions. He showed us all the options and explained each in detail. We chose our system and it was scheduled and installed in just a few days. They did an outstanding job and replace all my outdated plumbing connections. We have been very pleased with the Kinetico water softener system we had installed by American Water in 2014, so we turned to them again when we were interested in a drinking water system. Romaldo Guillen, the sales representative who came to our home, was prompt, polite, pleasant, answered all our questions, and there was no "high pressure". We chose the K5 system, primarily because of the 10-year guarantee, and it was installed within a week by two very professional technicians in about an hour. Romaldo came out two days later for a follow-up visit, to make sure we were satisfied and to answer any questions. From the sales to installation and service, everything went smoothly. Romaldo (salesman) was punctual and patient with all my questions. He was very knowledgeable about the product and made me feel confident that this was the best machine for me. We have nothing but great things to say and Romaldo and American Water. We were in the market for both a water softener and filtration system. We took quotes from four different companies. We ended up choosing American Water due to the quality of their products and well as dealing with Romaldo. Romaldo explained everything we needed to know, answered all our questions, and made sure the installation went smoothly.
